Speaking on Wednesday, the DP said the government is not aware of anybody who has died out of hunger.

“From where I sit and from all professionals that we have, no one has died from the effects of the ongoing drought situation in the country,” the DP said.Ruto said news coming from various counties over possible deaths were faked.

“There is a lot of fake news around what is happening in Kenya. For example, we were told the other day that 11 people had died… that is not true from where I sit and from all professionals that we have,”  he said.

The DP warned ‘those spreading fake news’ that the law will catch up with them.“In fact the chief and the other fellows who faked death we’ve taken them in for questioning because these are people who are playing with a very serious matter involving human lives,” he added.

He was speaking in Shanzu during the Inter-Professional summit.

Interestingly, the government’s denial came hours after West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo said there were deaths in his county out of hunger.
