Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday heaped praise on President Uhuru Kenyatta for his immense contribution towards economic prosperity of the African continent.
He noted that the President has been deeply involved in matters of empowerment of the private sector since he took over office from his predecessor. Putin noted that the effort made by the head of state has borne fruits in different sectors of the economy.
“You have mentioned the most important aspect on the need to involve private investments. I must say this is also relevant for us. We are working on it, creating favourable investor climate,” Putin told President Kenyatta.
Putin also said that he will use his position as a permanent member of the UN Security Council to support African nations in dealing with a range of problems that have befallen its people over decades.
“As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Russia will continue supporting the African Union resolution that, African problems require African solutions,” President Putin said.
On his part, Uhuru welcomed the support Russia has given to the African continent in the past. He also asked Putin to ensure that AMISOM gets UN funding. He also pledged to strengthen ties between the two nations before he completes his tenure in office.
