The Teachers Service Commision (TSC) and teachers have been asked to dialogue so as to avert the looming strike that his threatening to paralyse learning in public schools across the country.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has already directed its members not to report to their workstations on Thursday, the official opening date for schools.
But according to the Uasin Gishu Gospel Ministers Fellowship chairman Bishop Wilson Kurui, the two parties need to iron out their issues through dialogue which he said was the only way to ensure learning is not disrupted.
“It is unfortunate that it has become a Kenyan tradition that if anyone wants to be heard, he/she must strike and demonstrate. This should stop. We need to embrace dialogue,” said Bishop Kurui in Eldoret town on Wednesday.
The clergy noted that children have overstayed at home during the recently concluded long holiday and teachers going on strike will inconvenience their studies.
He further said threats from both parties will not solve the situation.
“My prayer is that they should table their grievances, dialogue and find solutions to problems facing teachers. They should stop chest thumbing as the strike will halt learning activities in schools,” added Bishop Kurui who at the same time challenged teachers to be patriotic and give dialogue a chance in solving the dispute.
Teachers have threatened to down their tools to protest among others, ongoing mass transfer of teachers in what the TSC has termed as delocalization exercise.
