Residents of Nyamondo village in Biticha, Masaba North in Nyamira County were left in a rude shock after a 33-year-old woman eloped with her step-son.
Shocked locals said Maggy Mong'ina was married by an ageing man identified as John Mecha five years ago.
"Mong'ina is barren and has been living with her ageing husband who lost his first wife 9 years ago. Instead Mong'ina decided to have an affair with Mecha's second born son who she eloped with," said Andrew Morira.
Mr Morira said Mong'ina and her 'new husband' are believed to have rented a house in Magwagwa.
"We are in shock because it is an abomination for the woman to have sex with her husband's real son. A such incident has never happened before in this village," he added.
Elders led by Nyamao Bichanga protested Mong'ina move, saying she will never be allowed back into the village.
"Such marriages won't take place while we watch. Mong'ina and her new husband should look for a place to live since we can't allow them live with us in the same village. Gusii tradition doesn't allow such marriages," he noted.
