In a press release send to newsrooms by Kisumu County Government Spokesperson Aloice Ager, the County government has among others increased surveillance all over the county with a dedicated monitoring team.

Ager says the County has prepared an isolation Centre at the Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital commonly known as Russia, besides engaging with the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) to carry out tests on suspected cases should need arise.

He said the County government is prepared to assist the national government in the Ebola challenge.

“The government wishes to ask the National Government surveillance agencies to project a more robust surveillance and screening at the border posts to eliminate any possible infiltration into the hinterland,” says Ager in the press release.

According to reports, the patient admitted in Kericho had traveled from Malaba border in Busia County to see her husband. Recently, Ebola outbreak was reported in Uganda.

Kisumu is a transit County as most travelers going to Kericho, Naivasha, Nakuru, Nairobi and Mombasa from Busia and vice versa have to go through Kisumu.
