Speaking on Friday, the IG disclosed that the copters have been under maintenance, which has rendered the service's air wing with no means to carry out its operations.

He added that the maintenance session ich was being done by the insurers has been concluded and Kenyans should now expect more overhead patrols and security operations going forward.

"These helicopters have not really been having a problem, just issues of insurance that is provided by the suppliers," he was quoted by the Standard.

Mutyambai spoke on Thursday, after taking journalists on a test drive on one of the police Italian-made Agusta 5-Y DIG copter which was acquired at a cost of Sh4.6 billion.

He said that the choppers will also be beneficial for officers operating on the ground.

"These helicopters will go far in supporting police operations that will help direct teams on the ground," he added.

Mutyambai is barely two months old in the office, after taking over from Joseph Boinnet who has since been moved to the Ministry of Tourism.
