Speaking on Tuesday, the opposition lawmaker accused the team, which has openly declared its support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, of keeping the nation in a constant campaign mood.

He argued that the 'Tanga Tanga' team, which consists mostly of lawmakers, has refused to heed President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive to shun premature campaigns, denying him the peace and calm he needs to realise his manifesto.

Consequently, he said, the president risks not realising his dreams for the nation, because of a team that swore to support him, having been elected through a party he leads.

"It is because of the ‘Tanga Tanga’ movement that the country is in a campaign mood. These people are derailing the agenda of the same president they claim to be supporting," said Junet on Citizen TV's News Night show.

Junet noted that the group is suffering from its obsession with opposition leader Raila Odinga, adding that it is acting out of its discomfort with the former prime minister.

He argued that the obsession has turned into an ailment to the group, rendering it restless, as it prepares to fight Raila in 2022 though he is yet to declare interest in any position.

The lawmaker said that the group is slowly turning into a major problem to the entire party, likening it to a tumor slowly eating up Jubilee.

"This obsession with Raila Odinga is a disease, confined to the ‘Tanga Tanga’ movement. Such people who are always talking about Raila have become like a ‘tumor’ in Jubilee," he added.
