Wiper Democratic Movement of Kenya (WDM-K) party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is a man under siege as governors from his Ukambani backyard have vowed to wrestle political kingship from him.
Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Makueni's Kivutha Kibwana since the beginning of this year have been laying down strategies to neutralise the former Vice President's influence in the region.
In a meeting two weeks ago, the trio agreed to fight Kalonzo's dominance by offering fresh leadership which will ensure that the Kamba nation gets its rightful share of the national cake.
The governors accuse the Wiper leader of failing to initiate meaningful development projects despite being close to powers for about three decades.
"Going forward, we'll speak with one voice to unite the community and negotiate directly with the national government on the issues affecting our region," Mutua said in a statement on behalf of his colleagues.https://www.nation.co.ke/news/politics/Kalonzo-faces-fresh-rebellion-in-Ukambani/1064-4928244-bb4mn0z/index.html
The growing rebellion has apparently sent shivers down his spine judging from the behaviour of his footsoldiers such as former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama.
The vocal politician said even though he was optimistic Kalonzo will win back his influence, he could not have lost it in the first place had he heeded to his warning.
Speaking to the Nation, Muthama revealed he had cautioned Kalonzo against allowing Kibwana to vie on Wiper party ticket and working with Ngilu during 2017 elections.
He said had the Makueni governor vied on his Muungano party he could have had hard time recapturing his seat which he was on verge of losing.
“I disagreed with Kalonzo on working with them. These are our own blunders. Had he listened to our caution, we would not be dealing with this problem because they would not have won the elections," Muthama said. https://www.nation.co.ke/news/politics/Wiper-party-to-meet-over-anti-Kalonzo-threat/1064-4942412-vnt1jp/index.html
