Kenya National Union of Teachers Masaba North branch now says President Uhuru Kenyatta should reconsider reshuffling Fred Matiang'i to the education ministry.
With several cases of examination malpractices unearthed in the first day of KCSE, the union said Matiang'i should have stayed longer in the ministry to restore order.
"It's an embarrassing moment which should have been curbed had he kept Matiang'i. Transferring him was done hastily when the country was undergoing radical surgery in education," said James Oteki, Deputy Secretary General on Gesima WhatsApp group.
He added: "Hope is not lost. He can still help the ministry to restore it's dwindling glory by bringing Matiang'i back soonest."
Mr Matiang'i, formerly at ICT, Lands and Education, was transferred to Interior Ministry early this year after Uhuru's 2017 controversial victory.
But despite the irregularities some detected at his Kisii backyard, Matiang'i has been cracking whip oj errant teachers engaging malpractices that saw over 17 people arrested after an attempt to cheat in Monianku Secondary School.
"We have deployed over 70,000 police overs to take control. We shall not allow that nonsense of cheating in exams," he had said.
