Speaking at Egesa FM on Tuesday, Matiang'i said the habit derails contractors from performing their duties, with some forced to pull out after having bribed.

"I can't deny, there is bribery in government. This is why the president is fighting corruption. A contractor is asked to part with a lot and at the end of the day, he will be unable to do his job," he said.

Dr Matiang'i also blamed stagnating of projects on contractors who secure several contracts yet they have little resources to perform their duties.

Also, he said, some of those given work are incompetent, a reason why some of them fail to stick to contractual obligations. He said the government is working hard to block a number of them.

"We also have instances where some contractors have several contracts with minimal resources. They end up slowing the process. Some of them are naturally incompetent."

On his appointment  to chair Cabinet Committee  in charge of supervising and monitoring of projects, Matiang'i said he's not special than any minister, adding that he is only interested with service delivery.

He said until now, the new Committee has managed to solve a number of issues among them SGR project along Kajiado and ongoing expansion of Westlands road to Nairobi.
