Police Officers in Bondo are hunting for a 30-year-old man who is accused of cohabiting with a 14-year-old girl at Nyamonye market in Bondo.
The man identified as John Omollo is reported to have taken the minor to his place and was staying with her as the wife.
According to the area chief Mr Opil Rabut, the man fled to an unknown place after he got wind that the police were looking for him.
As reported by Citizen Digital, the minor was rescued by the administration after members of the public reported the matter to the chief.
She was taken for a medical check-up at Got Agulu sub-county hospital.
"We got a tip-off from the members of the public that there was a man who was staying with an underage girl in his house and we had to swing into action to rescue the minor," said Rabut.
The chief further stated that the suspect, who hails from Kisumu County, learnt of the impending police arrest and vanished before the police could get hold of him.
"He must have become apprehensive after we rescued the girl," he added.
He revealed that the girl has already recorded a statement at Usenge police station, noting that preliminary investigations were underway.
The location head vowed that they will pursue their course of arresting the errand man to the end.
He warned other men with similar ill manners of cohabiting with minors in their houses that they will face the full force of the law.
"The police are alert and we will deal with such cases decisively, we want our girls to go to school and not to be taken to hideouts and defiled b grownups," said the chief.
He commended members of the public for the tip-off and asked them to collaborate with his office and the police in order to combat such crimes.
