Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has revealed why a delegation of Uganda MPs who have been benchmarking in his county chose to learn from the county's assembly.
Kibwana said the legislatures believe that devolution has led to effective service delivery in the county thereby making it the best place in the country.
"A delegation of Uganda Members of National Assembly has hailed the Makueni's devolved systems of governance saying it has led to the effective delivery of services to the citizens," Kibwana posted on his Facebook account on Thursday.
According to the MPs led by Hon. Cecilia Ogwal, devolved systems in Uganda have not encouraged public participation and this has led to the unequal distribution of resources among Uganda citizens.
Ogwal said they have learned a lot from the Makueni County Assembly.
“We have read a lot about Makueni and its success stories and that is why we chose to come. However, in Uganda, we have devolved systems up to the districts level but the participation of people is not functional,” Ogwal said.
The Ugandan MPs have been in Makueni County on a benchmarking mission since Tuesday.
The lot was hosted by the Makueni County Assembly.
They ended their tour on Thursday.
