Deputy President William Ruto is so keen on realising his 2022 presidential bid to the extent that he is unconsciously overdoing some things in an attempt to appeal to Kenyans.

They include his frequent visits to local food kiosks where he has reportedly ended up paying hundreds of thousands of shillings for a cup of tea and mandazi or chapati.

So far, he has done it thrice in Laikipia, Kisii and earlier last week in Kakamega, a move that though is one of his ways to rub in his 'hustler' narrative, lacks any benefit to the remaining millions of Kenyans.

Therefore, the DP should instead concentrate pushing for the realisation of the promises he and President Uhuru Kenyatta gave to Kenyans before their election and reelection and avoid giving misleading impressions.

After all, doesn't he end up being chauffeured in his armoured limousine after each meal with an army of police officers around him? Do hustlers enjoy such privileges?

Also, the DP has insincerely continued claiming that his trips around the nation are development based and not in any way associated with the approaching electoral period.

He has also been in the front line in asking leaders to stop politicking and instead unify Kenyans whenever he gets the opportunity during his many fundraising events.

Ironically, the case has always been different with his brigade which has always gone ahead to politick in his full glare, with Ruto making no attempt to tame them.

It is open that he is fully involved in the politicking and should stop misleading Kenyans and come out openly as it is not illegal anyway.

Finally, his constant attacks on opposition leader Raila Odinga could work against him.

He has repeatedly been heard saying that it is time for development and not stories, a jibe which has most of the time been associated with the former Premier and his top nemesis, a man whose supporters' backing he might need to win the seat.

Ironically, though he is aware that it is time for development, the government which he co-leads is yet to give Kenyans the stadiums they promised before their election in 2013.

Corruption is still the main headache, and the youth are growing frustrated over joblessness, yet they promised 500, 000 new job openings annually.

What development is he talking about? Ruto has to stop and do what Kenyans expect him to do as otherwise, many will not approve his attempt to succeed the outgoing Kenyatta.
