President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday met World Bank President Kristalina Georgieva at State House, Nairobi.

 Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in office, said that they held a discussion with the interim head over a number of issues.

 He noted that he urged the bank to support the country to achieve its development goals.

“I am delighted to have met the interim World Bank President Kristalina Georgieva at Statehouse, Nairobi. Among our discussions was the Bretton Woods institution’s support to Kenya’s development projects,” he said.

Uhuru also stated that he called upon the bank to support Small Microfinance Enterprises in different parts of the nation. 

He noted that the SMEs play a great role in the economy and ought to be supported by the government and the bank. 

The president observed that it is the SMEs that have changed the lives of many Kenyans and they need funding from the Bank for them to grow.

“I urged the World Bank to support #SMEs which are a major source of employment in the country. I also informed the interim World Bank President that Kenya targets to attain 100 per cent transition to green energy by 2022," his statement read in part.
