Kenyatta’s official nurse, Isabella Wangui Waweru revealed that Mzee sent her away after being called at 2 am by the then First Lady, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, to check on him.

She explains that she was not convinced that the President was okay and decided to contact Kenyatta’s doctor, Erick Mugola. He responded promptly and arrived with a nurse and four doctors.

Mzee was attended to but while still receiving medication he became restless, developed hiccups and collapsed. Resuscitation did not save Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

The nurse narrates that Kenyatta was very healthy and rarely fell sick. She says he was strong and she never had a chance of injecting him. However, she was with emergency medical requirements wherever they went.

She thanks Mzee Kenyatta for helping her develop the culture of punctuality and general discipline. She also says Mama Ngina Kenyatta is a friendly woman full of joy and generosity.

Isabella wishes to meet Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s son, Uhuru Kenyatta, who is the current president and the maiden First Lady, Mama Ngina.
