Masturbation is the sexual stimulation of ones (man or woman) own genitals for sexual arousal or pleasure to the point of orgasm.
Biblically and culturally it is wrong for one to engage in self-pleasure.
Immaculate Wavomba, a catechist at a local secondary school in Kiambu says that the Bible does not condone self-pleasure. “It is a sin for man or woman to masturbate or engage in any form of self-sexual pleasure,” she says.
Mrs Wavomba, however, says that the current society has ignored Biblical teachings and is engaging in sinful acts. She says that technology has made it easy for people to engage in self-sexual satisfaction.
Mrs Wavomba adds that self-sexual pleasure has contributed to moral decay among youths and breakage of families.
Here are reasons to why men and women masturbate.
1. Exposure to pornography/illicit sexual content
With the advancement of internet and mobile phones, pornographic content is just a click away.
Men and women often use the internet and expose themselves to sexual content that forces them to masturbate and engage in other self-sexual satisfaction.
Wavomba notes that 60 percent of people who watch pornographic content and engage in self-stimulation are married couples.
2. Lack of sexual satisfaction
Failure by one partner to satisfy another partner in sex leads to masturbation and other sexual stimulation.
A man or woman will stimulate himself or herself if she is not being satisfied in bed.
Wavomba says that men and women shy away from exposing their concerns when they are sexually starving and opt to masturbate for self-satisfaction.
3. Habit
Wavomba says that it is just a habit for some people to engage in self-sexual pleasure. She notes that the habit develops at a tender age and grows on.
Wavomba says that most people who masturbate started doing it while in primary or secondary schools and lacked proper counseling.
In many cases, men and women have often defended themselves for masturbating.
The majority often claim that masturbating reduces or relieves stress and strengthens pelvic muscles in women and also makes one to appreciate his or her sexuality.
