The government has directed all employers in the country to submit lists of their employees.

According to the National Employment Authority, employers who will not have submitted the list of their employees within the said period will be liable to fines of up to Sh100, 000 or six-month jail term.

This is in a bid to establish the existing vacancies in different firms to help job seekers find places to work. The notice, which was seen by Citizen Digital, refers to Section 76-81 of the Employment Act 2007. 

The docket, which falls under the CS Ukur Yattani’s Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, is determined to help job seekers find work.

According to the section, employers are required to visit NEA website and fill out details. A report from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics indicates that around 7 million Kenyans are unemployed. 

“It mainly provides for a comprehensive institutional framework for: employment management; enhancement of employment promotion interventions; and increasing access to employment by the youth, minorities and marginalized groups and for connected purposes,” read part of the notice, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta has continued to express his desire to address the issue of unemployment before he leaves power in 2022.
