According to Nyeri police boss Ali Nuno, the law enforcers have since nabbed one member of the gang that has been operating within the Nyeri County Referral Hospital.

The suspect is part of a group that was captured on surveillance cameras ambushing and robbing a woman of her belongings within the health establishment last week.

He said that the police are using the camera details to follow up on the remaining 5 members of the gang.

"It seems even the sick are not safe in Nyeri. This is a very serious matter that we need to tackle immediately,” he told the Nation.

The woman is said to have lost her phone, laptop and money in the ordeal that happened in the outpatient wing of the largest hospital in the county.

He added that the suspect is helping detectives with investigations, after which he will be arraigned to answer to his charges.

“We are pursuing the other five suspects and anybody else who is involved in this. The one in custody will be taken to court," officer Nuno added.

He added that the surveillance cameras details indicate that more such incidents have been happening in the facility, only that they were never reported.

Also being investigated is the theft of babies in the same facility, the latest incident being reported to have happened a few days back.

According to CCTV footage, the mother was duped by another woman who offered to help her carry the baby before disappearing with the infant.
