Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Saturday expressed his joy to be the chief guest in the noble cause of fundraising for the Al-Salaam Mosque in Maralal, Samburu, County.
The governor's motorcade arrived in Maralal in chants, as residents sung traditional songs to welcome him.
The governor took the rare opportunity wave at the crowd which had lined by the roadside to welcome him.
At the invitation of Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda, and Samburu County leadership, Joho's team managed to help the people of Maralal begin the steps in fulfillment of a religious duty.
"It is important that the honorable burden of fostering unity is not left to the two principals alone, all of us must take up our obligations in building bridges for a better Kenya," he said.
Citing the economic disparities he said are present in the current society, Joho made the case for a shared prosperity for all Kenyan people.
"I deeply believe that to move forward, we should as a nation consider strengthening devolution, pursue inclusivity further and entrench equity. If this shall require a constitutional amendment, we must have the courage to begin this important national conversation," said the ODM deputy party leader.
The welcoming of the governor in his rival, Deputy President William Ruto's backyard, is a boost to his political career, as he seeks to vie for presidency in 2022.
