At his Karen offices, Ruto has established a mini-secretariat whose main duty is to map the country and guide his day today maneuvers.

Inside the team, are campaign strategists, communication secretaries, data analysts, volunteers and former intelligence officers who either quite service at his request or those who retired.

Also joining the team consistently to check progress or to help them in key areas are close political confidants led by Kipchumba Murkomen and Soy MP Caleb Kositany.

"He's a prepared man and already has a mini-secretariat. The team guides his itinerary besides coming with contemporary issues that need to be discussed.

"Usually, they work with elected grassroots leaders across the country and organise mega meetings," said a former Jubilee aspiring MP, close to the DP.

According to him, the team is also responsible for giving the DP advice whenever he's under attack.

To minimise leakage, the source adds, the team migrated from Harambee Annex where it initially operated from.

One of the major political decision the team made was to ask the DP to support referendum calls which he had earlier opposed.

Charangany MP Joshua Kutuny had before warned that the DP would be isolated if he opposed constitutional changes being fronted by opposition leader Raila Odinga.

"He has no option other than joining the rest of Kenyans. That is the only way he can remain relevant," he said.

Among the areas the team has planned charm offensive are Coast, Western, North Eastern and parts of Nyanza where Raila enjoys massive support.

To achieve this, a member of intelligence team says, Ruto is closely working with grassroot leaders and a political network he established in 1990s.

"He's smart and charismatic. Do not write him off. He's got a strong network he has been relying on," he said in confidence.
