Emerging details indicate that plans are in place by state agencies working with President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party to punish defiant members.
In a planned move to hit back at Mt Kenya leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto under the 'Tanga Tanga' team, the plan includes de-whipping them from their parliamentary committee slots.
Weighing in on the plans, Gatanga MP Nduati Ngugi termed the move necessary, noting that the team has betrayed Uhuru by defying his calls to root for political calm, after riding on his name to win in the 2017 elections.
He said that their placement in the seats was aimed at helping Uhuru realise his development agenda, and should now be replaced for failing to honour the deal.
"The positions the leaders hold are very integral in realising the President's dream of actualising the Big Four but they are busy campaigning for their master in 2022," he was quoted by the Nation.
His remarks were echoed by Kigumo MP Ruth Mwaniki who said that the MPs are now portraying Uhuru as a weak leader by causing confusion in Mt Kenya and the entire nation.
"Party leadership has to be aligned to a certain policy for there to order. Things are disorderly since some leaders are behaving as if there is no leadership," she said.
Some of the targeted MPs include Muranga Woman Representative Sabina Chege, Muranga Senator Irungu Kang'ata and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungw'a who have been very vocal about Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
