Residents of Eberege sub-location, Mokubo Location, Bomachoge Borabu in Kisii County are living in fear after Malaria outbreak posing health risks due to an unused dam with stagnant water that is said to have been dug by a private investor.
The water is alleged to have been stagnating for ages now making mosquitoes to camp in the area.
The area sub-chief Mr. Bernard Oyugi said residents have been highly affected by Malaria especially school children who have turned the water into a swimming pool.
"This dam was dug years ago and it has a large amount of stagnant water. People have been diagnosed with Malaria with many being referred to other hospitals because the surrounding dispensaries are not enough to accommodate them. It is really dangerous to our people," said Oyugi.
Oyugi said school children are the most affected for they have turned the place into a swimming pool with some even risking of drowning. He has appealed to relevant authorities to take action and rescue people from the jaws of awaiting death.
"School children always swim in that dirty contaminated water. We request relevant authorities to either work on the dam and make use of it or close it completely because our people are dying," he pleaded.
