Father Lawrence Nyaanga who doubles as NACADA's Nyanza regional coordinator accused police officers of failing to take action against cartels selling drugs to youths.

Nyaanga said the future of youths in the region hangs on the balance due to the continuous use of drug abuse.

"Several youths are becoming useless in deep villages due to the use of drugs. Authorities have failed to flush out cartels selling drugs to youths more especially those in colleges and universities," he said.

He appealed to police officers and local chiefs to wake up and help secure the future of youths failure to which youths will continue being useless.

The priest challenged church leaders to be at the front line urging youths to stop abusing drugs.

"Drug abuse won't be fought effectively if authorities won't hold of cartels engaging in the dubious businesses," he added.

The Kisii University Chaplain said that about 18 per cent of school going children in the region have been reported to have consumed alcohol.
