Former presidential candidate James Ole Kiyiapi is still in shock over the brutal murder of a Moi University student.
Kiyiapi was among tens of Kenyans who arrived at the scene of murder of Ivy Wangechi just outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret on Tuesday.
He said it was horrific and traumatizing to be at scene where the sixth-year medical student lost her life after being hacked to death by her lover.
It is alleged that Wangechi was hacked to death by her boyfriend Naftali Njahi Kinuthia using an axe.
"I just passed by the scene of the incident - it was horrific as it was traumatizing. Those who saw it first are in shock. Something is terribly wrong when people have to lose their lives because of relationships gone wrong," Kiyiapi tweeted.
The former Education Assistant Minister described the brutal murder of the young comrade as disturbing and said there was an urgent need to address myriad of challenges facing young people.
"Murder of a 6th year medical student by an alleged boyfriend is very disturbing. What is driving (mostly) young people to extreme end of themselves? How do we help them from a complex web of love, betrayal, sponsors, HIV AIDS, hopelessness, hurt, rejection and destruction?" Kiyiapi posed.
The suspect, who is under police custody, is currently undergoing treatment after he was badly injured by an angry mob after he committed the heinous act.
