Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has told off those accusing him of allegedly misappropriating county funds meant for student bursaries.
Speaking in Gem, the county chief instead blamed the National Treasury for slow disbursement of funds which he says has frustrated his effort to make the money reach bright but needy students.
"There are people spreading very bad rumours about me. I cannot misuse money meant for electorates. The bursary fund are there and will soon be disbursed fully. There is no single cent that will get lost or misused," said Rasanga as quoted by Standard.
According to some MCAs, wards received bursary forms last December and that the disbursements which was set for for January failed to kick off, thereby affecting the schooling of students from humble backgrounds.
While speaking separately to the Standard, the County Education Chief Officer Peter Odhiambo confirmed that some funds had already been released to the bursaries account and that disbursement process is going on.
Odhiambo further confirmed that money has been credited into school account and that most of them are already collecting the list of beneficiaries.
