Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has said that the ongoing demolitions will focus on residential areas soon.
Through his social media accounts, Sonko said that the government will flatten all buildings with more than five storeys and lack a lift.
"Wananchi musikubali kuishi kwa flat ya more than5 floors na hazina lift wala proper approvals zaserikali. Nyumba aina hii zote zitaenda chini.(Citizens, do not reside in flats that are more than 5 floors tall and do not have lifts installed or that are not properly approved by the relevant authorities. These flats will be demolished)," Sonko said.
He warned city residents against residing in buildings that endangered their lives.
"Pia musikubali watu wafanye biashara na maisha yenu especially wale mumerentnyumba/ flats karibu na mto (Also dont allow people to do business by trading with your lives especially those who have rented houses near the river banks), Sonko cautioned.
The Nairobi County boss warned that it was time the government took action against individuals whio endanger lives of innocent Kenyans.
"Tumechoka kuzika watu innocent kila saa kutokana na uzembe wa engineers wa county nagreedy landlords (We are tired of burying innocent people every now and then due to laxity of the county engineers and greedy landlords).
The government is currently focusing on buildings erected on riparian land and land reserves.
