State lodges across the country are mostly characterized by well-manicured lawns, flag colours on the walls and mean-looking guards from the General Service Unit (GSU).
However, the case is different for the West Pokot presidential palace which as opposed to her colleagues, has now turned into nothing but a pale shadow of its former self.
Located in Riting village, 120 kilometres away from the county's capital, Kapenguria, the once prestigious premises is now characterized by fallen walls and bushy lawns.
It twice hosted retired President Daniel Moi over 28 years ago, his successors Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta choosing to spend most of their time at the main house in Nairobi.
According to a report by the Daily Nation, the state lodge in Riting was last used in 2006 by former Vice President Moody Awori, that being its last turn to host a prominent person.
And as expected, the lodge adjacent to the Turkwel Dam has been turned into a campaign tool by area politicians.
Both area Governor John Lonyangapuo and his predecessor Simon Kachapin promised to revive it before clinching the top seat.
Lonyangapuo has since promised to turn it into VIP tourist destination but all that remains empty rhetoric, considering that nothing has been done to realize the pledge.
Area residents are now calling for a speedy intervention to bring the lodge which consumed millions of taxpayer's money in construction back to the required state.
