The controversial construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams in which Sh21 billion is believed to have been embezzled dominated discussions between ODM leader Raila Odinga and a section of Kalenjin community leaders.
Last month, Deputy President William Ruto vehemently denied claims that the money had been embezzled, accusing DCI George Kinoti of being used to fight his allies in the name of fighting graft lords.
“You've heard that government has lost about Sh21 billion in Kimwarer and Arror dam, which is a flat lie!” he said at the Supreme Court.
“The money in question is about Sh7 billion and for every coin that has been paid, we have a bank guarantee. No money will be lost because we are a responsible government.”
At the cite, reports indicate that nothing is yet to start. In the past, Mr Odinga had accused a section of Rift Valley leaders of allegedly stealing from the government only to later on hide in the community.
But on Monday, Mr Odinga hinted that the construction of the dams could soon kick off. He said he will ensure that the project is accelerated for the sake of people.
"Met with leaders from the Kalenjin community with whom we discussed issues ranging from reviving agriculture, the Building Bridges Initiative, famine in parts of the Rift Valley and how to ensure that the dams whose funds have been embezzled can be set back on track," wrote Odinga.
Present at the meeting were ODM nominated MP who also doubles as KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion and veteran KANU Secretary General Nick Salat, a critic of Deputy President William Ruto.
Mr Odinga has been lately at loggerheads with the DP, often linking him to various corruption scandals. He has often dismissed claims that he wants the DP blocked from ascending into power.
