Terrorism is steadily becoming a security threat in Kenya, especially in the border counties of Mandera, Garissa, and Wajir. In the recent past, suspected Al-Shabaab gunmen have staged attacks on unarmed civilians with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) successfully foiling many other attempts.
Here are three tips that can help you identify a potential terrorist;
1. Surveillance
Any strange looking person who suspiciously surveys a new place with no real intention is most likely to be a terrorist.
Findings indicate that suspected terrorists observe a chosen place of interest during the planning phase before staging an attack.
Therefore, if you see any suspicious element in your midst, you should report to relevant authorities for immediate action.
2. Inquiries
If you spot a stranger making unwarranted inquiries about a place, individual, or even a building, then you have a reason to be concerned.
Terrorists usually attempt to extract information about a strategic infrastructure such as government installation, social places by making unusual inquiries. Anytime you spot such an element, volunteer the information to the nearest security official.
3. Tests of Security
It has been found that terrorists usually test their target’s state of alert before striking.
Towards achieving this, they put a target's security systems into test by hovering around to check on security loopholes.
Therefore, if you happen to spot a fellow hovering aimlessly in your vicinity, stay alert.
