As cases of single mothers increase, majority men fear committing to these women.
According to Kimani Njuguna, a relationship expert and social worker with a Non-Governmental Organization in Kiambu, eight out of ten men will not agree to date or marry a single mother.
Njuguna, however, says that majority of men would want to date single mothers but remain non-committal when it comes to marriage.
Here are five reasons why men fear dating or marrying single mothers:
1. Fear of raising another man’s child
Majority of men refuse to marry or date single mothers for fear of raising another man's child.
Njuguna says that majority of men are not kind-hearted and will not tolerate the idea of raising and caring for another man’s child.
2. Single mothers are more attached to their children
Most men believe that marrying a single mother would be disastrous since all their affection, attention and love is attached to their children.
3. Single mothers are not trustworthy
Some men believe that single mothers cannot be trusted when it comes to love.
They fear that these women can easily go back to their baby daddies.
4. Single mothers are desperate
Some men believe that single mothers are desperate for marriage and can easily blackmail and arm-twist them to win their love by rushing marriage proposals.
5. Single mothers are stubborn
Some men claim that single mothers are difficult to handle and that their stubbornness is the reason why they are single.
