Speaking on Citizen TV Monday night, the MP remained reluctant to reveal whether or not the DP supported him, either financially or in any other way.

This follows allegations by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party whose candidate Chris Karan lost in the race, that Ochieng was a Ruto project.

But the MP now says that he cannot give a direct answer to the question.

He confirmed that he received a lot of support from different quarters and cannot allow himself to be dragged into discussing a single person.

"I received support from a lot of people, some of whom gave me money, vehicles and emotional support like encouragements. It would be unfair to single out this one human being," he said.

Ochieng wondered why people are questioning his links to the DP, yet he was never spotted or heard at any point declaring support for him.

The Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party boss noted that the question should instead be directed to ODM which made the claim its main campaign policy.

"Ruto's name was brought into the campaigns by the ODM brigade. I cannot give a yes or no answer to the question because the DP has never declared support for me," he added.

Ruto raised eyebrows when he became one of the first leaders who lauded Ochieng, immediately after he was declared winner in the by-election.

Ochieng garnered 18,730 votes against Karan's 14,507.
