Despite Ruto calling for calm and advising against the heating 2022 debate, where he seeks to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, a section of Ruto’s allies have gone ahead to openly endorse his bid, at times in his presence.

Speaking on Citizen TV ‘s ‘The Big Question’ on Sunday, Wambugu faulted the same, noting that it is disadvantageous to the nation which now needs to concentrate on developmental issues.

Known for his over protection of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Wambugu said that the move from Ruto’s side of the Jubilee Party is disrespectful to the President who needs time to concentrate on service delivery in line with his much-pursued legacy.

He added that it is also a defiance to Uhuru who has also called for the halt of the continued politicking to allow the Jubilee government to release its promises to Kenyans.

‘’We cannot have a person defying the President and going ahead to campaign 4 years in advance, as that is disrespecting the President. The people campaigning must first let the President finish his term before strategizing on succeeding him,’’ he said.

The parliamentarian vowed to continue with his attacks on Ruto’s side whenever he deems suitable, maintaining that apart from being elected to represent his constituents, he was also mandated to defend the head of state.

‘’I was elected to represent my people and to defend the sitting President and not any other. Since sometimes his assailants are from within, I will keep reacting whenever I have to,’’ he added.

This comes at a time when the ruling party is apparently nearing its collapse, with a crisis meeting having been set for Tuesday to try and save the bloc.
