The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) has temporarily closed down St. Teresa Hospital Kikuyu saying that there are glaring gaps in their mode of operations and investigations cannot be done while the hospital is still running.
In a press release to media, the chair of the board Dr Eva Njenga also confirmed that the operational license of one Dr Mwaura has been revoked.
This comes after there were public complaints about the mode of operation of the hospital following the death of Mrs Helen Wanjiru Ngure who died from profuse bleeding while giving birth on 24th April, 2019.
The news on the death of Helen Wanjiru Ngure were received with anger by the public.
The KMPDB, the Nursing Council of Kenya and the Kiambu County Government then moved in haste to investigate the operations of the hospital.
In the press release, KMPDB informed the public that the patients who were currently at the hospital will be moved to the nearby government health centres.
NHIF has also been asked to make sure that the patients who were at the centre are still covered by the fund even when they get transferred to other health institutions.
