This seems to be fueled by the looming exit of President Uhuru Kenyatta, the current defacto leader of the region and who is expected to slip out after his retirement in 2022.

Kuria has since announced his presidential bid, in what the Wednesday Nation argues could be a plan to at least earn him a presidential running mate slot in the 2022 elections.

This way, the latter will have shot to nationwide popularity and will have it easier convincing his backyard to back him, automatically becoming its defacto leader.

The legislator has been attending countless functions and events in the region, including music festivals organized by both secular and gospel artists as he seeks to gather popularity.

This he has been doing under the guise of supporting talents while hoping to get the public's eye in the process, considering that such events are usually heavily attended.

The latter is also said to have established a television station which he hopes to ride on to advance his agenda. The station uses the local vernacular language.

Kuria has also been very vocal on some of the issues troubling locals in the Mt Kenya region, among them the troubles faced by coffee farmers, apparently to win their backing.

Initially the Deputy Patron of Gor Mahia Football Club, the latter has since ditched the opposition leader Raila Odinga-led side for the Mt Kenya Football Club.

He is now the patron of the soccer team, another of his techniques to beat his rivals for the tempting position.
