Two weeks after an unrelenting onslaught against Deputy President William Ruto, immediate former Jubilee Party Interim Vice Chairman David Murathe threw in the towel and resigned on Sunday.
Though it was anticipated that at one point he would give in to the pressure by a section of Jubilee lieutenants to exit office; his sudden resignation talks more of an illusion than power play.
Political analyst Nerima Wako-Ojiwa observes that his war against DP Ruto’s 2022 presidency made him stay in Jubilee until now when it escalated and he bowed out.
“He would stay to give the illusion that the party is together,” Nerima told Hivisasa exclusively.
She adds that with his exit from the party, it means that the mission has been accomplished.
“His resignation means mission completed. There is nothing worth building in the party and putting energy on anymore,” says the analyst.
However, Murathe’s exit from the President Uhuru Kenyatta led Jubilee Party is not a sign that the giant political outfit is collapsing, quips the analyst.
Murathe strongly holds that DP Ruto should not vie in 2022.
In his first tirade, two weeks ago in Vihiga County, he publicly stated that Mt Kenya voters and Jubilee Party owes the DP no political debt in 2022.
He stated that there is no signed MoU between the Kikuyu community and Ruto into supporting his presidential bid in 2022.
On Saturday, he put the final nail in the coffin by saying that Ruto’s bid for the presidency in 2022 contravenes the Constitution.
