Police officers in Kisii County have condemned residents of Irungu village, Bogeka in Kiamokama Nyaribari Masabawho on Saturday evening burnt to death a 40-year-old man who raped a 3-year-old minor.
Kisii County Assistant Police Commander Caleb Matoke said that residents who participated in lynching the suspect deceased Matundura Keronyo are being hunted down.
"Members of the public should stop taking the law into their hands killing crime suspects. The suspect could have been surrendered to police for court processing because the law doesn't allow crime suspects to be killed," he said.
He said area chief Ratemo Manoti should produce the people who lynched the suspect.
"As much as we want men to respect young girls, it is not acceptable for sex predators to be killed. Residents who set the suspect on fire will be nabbed to be arraigned in court to serve as example to the rest," said Matoke.
The commander appealed to men to stop chasing young girls for sex saying they risk being lynched.
"Men should go for mature women for sex and spare young girls. The law is clear any man who is caught having sex with underage girls will face the law," he added.
