There have been recent media reports over the alleged fight between Deputy President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Mtiang'i.
This is in relation to the procurement of new police uniforms where CS Matiang'i has said the uniforms will be made locally contrary to what is alleged that DP Ruto was for the uniforms to be imported from China.
It can, however, be revealed that the fight between DP Ruto and Matiang'i started long ago.
On September 20 2016, DP Ruto’s allies led by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart Alex Tolgos, MPs Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), Silas Tiren (Moiben), James Bett (former Kesses MP) and Isaac Terer former Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker stormed Moi University main campus demanding for the appointment of Prof. Isaac Kosgei as the new Vice Chancellor for the institution.
This was after Matiangi (then Cabinet Secretary for Education) appointed Prof. Laban Ayiro to head the institution on an acting capacity.
The leaders claimed that Prof. Kosgei was qualified to be the VC and should have secured the job through merit, after emerging top in the interviews.
Known for his stand, Matiangi stood to his ground despite the calls from leaders and residents of DP Ruto’s home county, Uasin Gishu, where the university is based.
Was this the origin of DP Ruto-Matiang'i fight?
