Bishop Emanuel Nyongesa of the Mwamba Faith and Works Ministry is said to have hanged himself in the kitchen at his home.

According to Baraton Chief Mildred Chesoli who was quoted by the Standard, Nyongesa took his life at about 7 in the morning, shortly after returning from a prayer mission.

The body of the deceased was later discovered by his son hanging in the kitchen.

Chesoli said the reason behind the death remains a puzzle, as the deceased did not leave behind a suicide note.

"We are yet to establish why he decided to take his own life," the chief was quoted by the Standard.

The incident shocked the entire village, resulting in the suspension of services at his church as faithful trooped to his home to confirm the reports.

"At first I did not believe that our bishop had killed himself. I spent Sh100 to go to his homestead and see for myself," one of the church members, Grace Nasimiyu, said.

"Why would a man of God end his life? Who is going to look after his flock?" added a local.
