Among those injured were Kapomboi MCA Emmanuel Mulipuko and guards attached to Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu and his Likuyani counterpart Enock Kibunguchy.

The leaders were attending funeral to Mr. Kibunguchy's driver who was shot under mysterious circumstances at Soy Highway Motel on August 12.

Trouble started when Kibunguchy was narrating how gunmen attacked his driver, Douglas Wakacha after which four unidentified men attacked yet again.

The MCA, who was rushed to Mt. Elgon hospital, was shot on the leg when he tried to shield Wetangula and Mr. Kibunguchy.

Local media reports that the four gunmen, whose motive could not be established, were in jungle green, uniforms usually associated with the AP.

Mr. Kibunguchy had alleged that the assassination of his driver was the prime target to eliminate him.

The funeral ended prematurely even as Wetangula promised expeditious investigations to the matter.
