A section of business people operating in Garissa County is counting huge losses after their buildings were demolished by the Kenya National Highway Authority this morning.
The buildings, according to the agency, have been brought up in a designated area meant for road expansion.
Among the notable buildings which have since been pulled down are; Getune Primary school and Doctor plaza.
The exercise went on smoothly under the strict supervision of police officers, who camped around the yellow bulldozer as it pulled down the earmarked buildings.
The booming business in the town suddenly came to a standstill as the sounds of the crumbling buildings drew some sort of attention, causing curious onlookers to march toward the crumbling structures, although watching it from far distance, courtesy of the presence of strict security surveillance.
Some traders praised the exercise, saying that it will provide sufficient space to expand the roads of the fast-growing town.
