Jubilee Vice-Chair David Murathe on Saturday escalated his onslaught on the prospect of a Ruto presidency during the funeral of Kefa Tuju, vowing to go to the Supreme Court to seek an advisory opinion to stop the deputy president from running.

According to Murathe, DP Ruto is constitutionally barred from seeking the presidency as he is part of a shared presidency.

"I want you to advise people... Section 148 of this constitution sub-section 5 of this constitution says that the deputy president cannot run for deputy president for more than two terms. Iwinjo! And why does it say that? It says that because section 145 says that the president cannot run for more than two terms. And this presidency is a pair. If the president is unable to carry out his functions, who becomes the president. We will go up to the Supreme Court. We are not laughing with anybody," Murathe is seen saying in a video trending on social media to the laughter and applause of his audience.

Murathe's sentiments will do little to placate the fears of Ruto's supporters that President Uhuru will support his deputy.

Ruto has been traversing the country in a bid to endear himself to voters across the country and give himself a head-start in the 2022 presidential election.

It remains to be seen the impact that Murathe's pointed remarks will have on the unity of the governing Jubilee Party.
