Residents of Amariba village in Enchoro, Nyamira County are in a rude shock after a school pupil was lured by witches from his bedroom before 'making him dumb'.
The victim's mother Winfrida Moraa said it was around 11pm on Tuesday night when his son went missing from his bedroom.
"We had supper together before retiring to bed. At 11pm I heard a dog barking outside not knowing it was may son who has been lured from his bedroom by the witches," said Moraa.
Moraa said she immediately raised alarm and a search was launched.
"We searched for him everywhere including nearby bushes in vain. On Wednesday morning we found him abandoned near Enchoro river," she added.
Area assistant chief Simon Orina said witchcraft is rampant in the area.
"The victim who is a pupil at a local school was found abandoned at river Enchoro. He was unable to talk a clear indication that the witches made him dumb," he said.
The administrator said local pastors prayed for the victim before he gained his voice.
He warned locals against practicing witchcraft saying whoever who will be found will carry his or her own cross.
