Livestock disease that is called Foot and Mouth has been confirmed in Kisii.
The disease that brings about sores in the mouth of the livestock that prevents it from grazing, has brought fear in most farmers after some livestock were confirmed to be suffering from the disease.
According to the minister of Agriculture in Kisii County Hesborn Onsarigo, three cows have been found to be having the disease from Nyaribari Chache, Nyaribari Masaba and Bomachoge.
"We have found cases of Foot and Mouth disease for livestock from Nyaribari Chache, Nyaribari Masaba and Bomachoge. We sent one case to Nairobi and professionals said that the disease is there,” Onsarigo said.
While addressing journalists in Kisii town on Wednesday, Onsarigo also asked the farmers and traders to be vigilant on their livestock and told them to report any weird case from the cows to the veterinary officers.
According to Onsarigo, if a cow is not taking its food as always, look at its mouth and confirm if there are any sores.
"The traders who buy cows from the neighbouring counties such as Bomet and even Narok should investigate first before making a transaction and bringing the cows to our county," Onsarigo added.
