Ochillo Ayacko's name is on many people's lips today, thanks to his involvement in Migori politics. And if he plays his cards well, he is set to be the next Migori Senator after the October 8 by-election.
The former Minister who has had a checkered political career announced his arrival into the country's politics in 1997. Then as a 29-year old, he faced off with the old-guard including the incumbent Oluoch Polo and former area lawmaker Dalmas Otieno who was a KANU heavyweight and President Daniel Arap Moi's right-hand man.
Then vying on Raila Odinga's NDP Party, the University of Nairobi-trained lawyer pulled a shocker when he trounced the veterans. By so doing, he became the youngest MP in the country at the time.
He would go on to serve as the area MP for the next 10 years until 2007 when he was finally trounced by his longtime rival Otieno.Since then, he has struggled politically-losing twice, in 2013 and 2017.
And 2018 could be the right time for him to reemerge from the political wilderness that has politically left him on the edge. Can he?
