For the first time, Deputy President William Ruto has come out open about his movements with President Uhuru Kenyatta during the entire period of 2013 presidential elections.
With Jubilee campaign team pitching tent at Catholic University as results trickled in, Ruto has however said that he spent a week with Uhuru at Jane Kiano's house.
"I want to remind you Mr President. You and I spent an entire seven days at Mama Kiano's house when results were coming in during 2013 polls. She gave us free access to her house and we could use it anytime," he revealed.
Politicians usually maneuver during intensive campaign period and shift their areas of operations to confuse competitors.
And while addressing the congregation during the requiem mass of Mrs. Kiano at St Francis ACK in Karen, Uhuru passionately remembered his close relationship with the deceased.
"She fought for women, not because she was seeking glory or wealth, but because it was the right thing to do. So today we celebrate many other women, who under her tutelage, have become great leaders in this country | @WilliamsRuto @FirstLadyKenya @RailaOdinga," he said.https://twitter.com/UKenyatta/status/1058306392862482432?s=19.
During the election period, Ruto added, the duo could sneak to Catholic University of East Africa to monitor the progress after which they would retreat to the Kiano home.
Mr. Kenyatta was declared winner against his main rival, Raila Odinga, who unsuccessfully challenged the results at the Supreme Court. In the 2017 rematch, Raila would overturn Uhuru's victory, forcing a runoff, which he after all boycotted.
Mrs Kiano is the wife to former powerful minister Dr Gikonyo Kiano, who also served as a personal physician to Founding President Jomo Kenyatta.
