Most of the great people associated with the Luo happen to hail from the county, beginning from the man after whom the Luos are named, Ramogi Ajwang'.
Though the headquarters of the lakeside region is tens of kilometers away in Kisumu County, Siaya remains the most popular county in the entire region.
From the Luo's most celebrated politician Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, to his son and opposition leader Raila Odinga and retired Potus Barrack Obama, Siaya remains on top.
In music, most famed songmakers in the region like Okatch Biggy, Aluoch Jamaranda and now Henry Ohanga (Octopizzo) are all from the region.
Were a Luo to become President of Kenya, it would be either Raila or Jaramogi, with the best lawyers like James Orengo and Argwings Kodhek also hailing from the region.
Other counties like Kisumu have senior politicians, but most of them lack national appeal.
Their colleagues from Homa Bay and Migori county are equally nowhere near the top of the list when it comes to popularity and fame, leaving Siaya at the helm.
