Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has launched the Kiambu County 'Jijenge Fund' aimed at helping the youth, women and people with special needs to venture into small income-generating activities.
Waititu speaking during the launch on Tuesday said the fund which has an initial kitty of Sh200 million will be increased by half every financial year to cater for more needy residents.
"Jijenge Fund is a revolving fund with no interest and it shall provide financing for LPOs, groups and individuals. I am going to increase it every financial year to ensure that the highest number of Kiambu residents benefit,” he said.
The fund which is only eligible to Kiambu County residents will be disbursed 'immediately and equitably' among all the county's 62 wards, according to Youths and Sports County Executive (CeC) Karungo Thang'wa.
“We are asking all of you to apply. Application forms have been made available at the Members of County Assembly’s offices and Ward Administrators' offices in each ward," Thangwa said.
However, some social media users apparently from the county are not convinced that the fund will achieve anything substantial saying it is 'another scam' by the governor following the controversial Sh1 billion 'Kaa Sober' programme that ended recently.
Less than two weeks ago, Kiambu MCAs engaged in fistfights at the county assembly chambers over audit queries on 'Kaa Sober' which a section of the MCAs claimed was never approved by the house.
Others have sarcastically asked what they are 'building' while there are those who have wondered what happened to Biashara Fund, a similar kitty hatched by former Governor William Kabogo, and how many people it actually benefited.
