Many political leaders are angling to become Luo Nyanza’s political kingpin after ODM leader Raila Odinga finally hangs his political boots.
But it is still not clear when Odinga will finally say enough is enough, and hand over the mantle to a crop of new leaders.
Many names have been thrown in as perfect replacements for Raila Odinga. From Siaya Senator James Orengo to Suba South Member of Parliament John Mbadi, replacing the ODM party leader has never been and will never be a walk in the park.
Odinga’s successor must be brave, popular, with ability to openly speak his mind and with an ability to pull crowds behind him/her with much ease.
That leaves one man, Kisumu Senator Fred Otieno Outa.
Mr Outa is perhaps the most controversial Senator in Luo Nyanza. He is quite popular in his County owing to the results of the 2017 general elections when he whitewashed his opponents in the senatorial race to become the second senator of the Lakeside County after Professor Peter Anyang Nyong’o who is now the governor.
Like Odinga, Outa is a man who can stand up and speak his mind without fear or favor. Last December, the Senator said that Governor Nyong’os administration was infiltrated with cartels.
The two were in the same camp during campaigns ahead of last year’s general elections.
Despite not having been detained as it happened to Raila during the fight for multiparty, Fred Outa has the ability, character and zeal that can make him Kenya's next opposition leader.
