Governor Ali Hassan Joho has issued a 21-day notice to all building owners in the County whose structures were erected without approval from the County government of Mombasa.
The governor warned that his administration will undertake a demolition exercise, targeting all unapproved structures and those erected on public land.
"I have issued a 21-day amnesty to all building owners. Those who have structures that have been done without approval from the county government to regularise with the relevant departments," he said.
"After the lapse of the amnesty, all non-compliant buildings, construction sites and physical structures will be declared condemned and demolished without further notice to the owners," Joho added in a statement seen by Daily Nation on Thursday, August 30.
A week ago, County Secretary Francis Thoya had announced that demolitions would kick-off.
The governor who is implementing what his Nairobi County counterpart Mike Sonko has been doing, said the operation seeks to reclaim public land, including riparian and other wetlands.
Sonko has demolished structures unlawfully erected on riparian and public lands, a move that saw Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua pledge to implement in his county.
