Even after his death, Jonathan Moi's spirit may have not been spared by his critics, over the gruesome murder of Julie Ward, a British photographer killed at Maasai Mara in 1988.
In an explosive interview with the Nairobi Law Monthly in 2012, Mr John Ward, Julie's father, accused the eldest son of retired President Daniel Moi of orchestrating the murder of the enthusiastic photographer.
”Our government sensing that Moi didn’t want this to be a murder decided to help him in the cover up. He (Jonathan) raped and killed my daughter. That's why the government covered up the matter,” he added.
Similar claims resurfaced on Saturday when Mr Moi died in Nakuru, with disgraced Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna sensationally attacking President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga for eulogizing Jonathan despite 'killing Julie Ward'.
"IRONCLAD evidence proves that Jonathan Moi MURDERED Julie Ward in 1988 at the Maasai Mara but instead of serving the rest of his life in jail, Uhuru Kenyatta and @RailaOdinga mourn Jonathan as "kind, generous and humble." Real patriots should sweep despots to the Indian Ocean," argued Miguna.
But his death, the former rally sensational absolved himself from the murder case, insisting that he never had any relationship with Ms Ward. He accused the father of being unfair to him.
“I am totally shocked to hear this,” Jonathan told The Star newspaper. “I had no relationship with the said lady (Julie) and I even didn’t know her. I never did such a thing and it has never crossed my mind to do it," he said.
The government claimed that Ward was triumphed upon by wildlife, adding that her death did not have any human hand behind it. But Mr Ward accuses the government of colliding with it's pathologists to conceal evidence.
Julie's mutilated body was discovered in September 1988, a sad end to her six months trip to Kenya. Mr Jonathan Moi died on Saturday at Nakuru with sources saying he succumbed to Pancreatic Cancer.
